Cassa has several meanings: in a shop it is the cash register or checkout (pagare alla cassa — to pay at the till); as a piece of furniture, a chest or case; in music, cassa or grancassa is a bass drum. Cassa integrazione is the Italian state wage-support scheme for workers in temporarily reduced employment.
