Usage Note
Gentiluomo has an irregular plural: gentiluomini (not gentiluomi), mirroring the irregular plural of uomo → uomini. Historically it referred to a man of noble birth; today it is used more broadly for a man of courteous, honorable conduct. The feminine counterpart is gentildonna (pl. gentildonne).
