Usage Note
Inaspettato is built from in- (not) + aspettato (expected, from aspettare) and means 'not anticipated'. It is interchangeable with inatteso in most contexts, but inaspettato is slightly more colloquial while inatteso is more formal/literary. The feminine form is inaspettata; the plural forms are inaspettati / inaspettate.
