takings

noun een-KAHS-soh Rare

Also means

box-office receipts

Usage Note

Incasso refers to the money taken in — the day's takings at a shop, or box-office receipts for a film. Il film ha fatto un incasso record means 'the film broke box-office records'. The verb is incassare (to cash in, to collect). Do not confuse with cassaforte (safe) or cassa (cash register) — though they share a root.

Examples

"Il film ha superato ogni record di incasso."

Natural Translation

The film exceeded every box-office record.
