Usage Note

Incolto applies both to land (terreno incolto = uncultivated land) and metaphorically to people (persona incolta = uneducated or uncultured person). The masculine plural is incolti, feminine incolta/incolte. In the figurative sense it is mildly pejorative; prefer ignorante for a stronger insult.
