labbro

lip

noun LAHB-broh Rare

Origin: From Latin labrum (lip, edge).

Usage Note

Labbro is grammatically masculine singular (il labbro), but its plural is the irregular feminine form le labbra — a classic gender-switching plural. When referring to both lips together, Italians almost always use the plural: le labbra rosse (red lips). The masculine plural i labbri exists but is rare.

Examples

"Si è morso il labbro per il freddo."

Natural Translation

He bit his lip from the cold.
