Usage Note
Perdonare takes either a direct object (the person forgiven) or a reflexive form: ti perdono ('I forgive you'), perdonami ('forgive me'). It is also used in polite requests with the sense of 'excuse me': mi perdoni is the formal register equivalent of mi scusi. It conjugates with avere in compound tenses: l'ho perdonato ('I forgave him').
Examples
"Non riesco a perdonarlo per quello che ha fatto."
Natural Translation
I can't forgive him for what he did.
