Usage Note

Poi means 'then' or 'afterwards' in temporal sequence (prima mangio, poi esco = 'first I eat, then I go out') and also 'besides / moreover' in argumentative discourse (e poi, non è giusto = 'and besides, it's not fair'). It is distinct from allora (which can mean 'then' as a logical consequence or filler).
