rametto

twig

noun rah-MET-toh Rare

Also means

small branch

Usage Note

Rametto is the diminutive of ramo (branch), referring to a small twig or sprig. The plural is regular: rametti. It is commonly used in cooking (un rametto di rosmarino = a sprig of rosemary) and in descriptions of nature. Unlike ramo, which can be large, rametto always implies something slender and small enough to hold in one hand.

Examples

"Ho aggiunto un rametto di rosmarino."

Natural Translation

I added a sprig of rosemary.
