Usage Note

Ricevuta is the standard word for a receipt issued after payment. Distinguish it from scontrino (till receipt from a shop) and fattura (formal invoice). Asking for a receipt in Italy is sometimes required for fiscal compliance: posso avere la ricevuta?. The plural ricevute is regular.
