Usage Note
Rischiarare means to brighten or illuminate — used both literally (la luna rischiarava la strada = the moon lit up the road) and figuratively (rischiarare le idee = to clarify one's ideas). It takes avere as its auxiliary. The reflexive rischiararsi is used for the sky clearing (il cielo si è rischiarato) or a face brightening up. Do not confuse it with rischiare (to risk), which looks similar.
