cuscino

cushion

noun koo-SHEE-noh Rare

Also means

pillow

Usage Note

Cuscino refers to both a decorative cushion on a sofa and a bed pillow (cuscino da letto). For a more formal or hotel context, guanciale is preferred for sleeping pillows, but in everyday speech cuscino covers both. Do not confuse with cuscinetto (a small cushion or, technically, a bearing in mechanics).

Examples

"Mi siedo sul cuscino del divano."

Natural Translation

I sit on the sofa cushion.
