Usage Note

Diciassettesimo follows the usual Italian pattern for ordinal numbers formed from cardinals: diciassette + -esimo. Like all ordinals, it agrees in gender and number with the noun it modifies — la diciassettesima pagina, il diciassettesimo secolo. Ordinals from 11th onward drop the final vowel of the cardinal before adding -esimo (except those ending in a consonant or stressed vowel).
