Usage Note
Pareggio is the standard Italian word for a drawn match in sports (finire in pareggio, 'to end in a draw'). In economics and public finance, pareggio di bilancio means 'balanced budget' — a concept enshrined in the Italian constitution since 2012. The verb is pareggiare ('to draw, to balance'). Do not confuse with pari ('equal'), from which it derives.
